2 Thessalonians
What are the strengths and weaknesses of this church? A good report in their faithfulness, love, and patience reflect the strengths in this church. Misunderstandings about the Lord’s return are mentioned in more detail and the saints are assured of God’s judgement on His enemies. (Nelson’s Maps and Charts). Acts 17 makes mention of the church of Thessalonica.
What is the main idea of this epistle? The heart of the matter was how these new believers were taking to troubles. "We warned you that troubles would soon come . . . How we thank God for you! To know that your are standing firm in the Lord . . . He let us see you again to fill the gaps in your faith." 2 Thess. 3:7,11. Repetitive words were "one another; how we thank God; and now brothers and sisters . . ."
What does this epistle show about the nature and character of God? "God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from sexual sin." In this society and time when pagan rituals were rampantly immoral, Paul emphasis "God’s will," for purity, piety, quietness, faithfulness, and diligence in work. God’s ways in living our life here on earth are lined out so clearly and succinctly.
